Together with families and friends, you can explore the landscape around Kötschach-Mauthen completely off the beaten track. With good equipment and a hearty snack, you trudge through snow-covered meadows, ice-covered woods and watch the endemic animals in the bright sunshine.
In Kötschach-Mauthen you can also learn how to build a "snowshoe". The basic material is willow, hazel or ash wood. The wood must be felled at the correct phase of the moon, then split and planed together.
